Wilfred Olaf Ohnsted, 91, formerly of Laporte, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown, Minn.

A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte, with visitation one hour prior to service. Rev. Warren Broughton will officiate and burial will be in Lakeport Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Dennis Funeral Home of Walker.

He was born May 24, 1915, to Oden "Willie" and Ingeborg (Johnson) Ohnsted in Hart Lake Township, near Laporte. He grew up there and graduated from Laporte High School in 1933. He was drafted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Margaret Murdoch on July 17, 1937. They lived in Stillwater, White Bear Lake, and Duluth most of their married lives, moving back to build a home in Laporte in 1973.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially loved people. He loved children, his family, and his church.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Craig) Anderson; son, William (Mary) Ohnsted; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret.
