COHASSET, Minn. -- Authorities have released the name of the man who was shot and killed by an Itasca County sheriff's deputy after allegedly threatening deputies with a gun early Saturday morning.
Adam Russell Schneider, 31, of Cohasset died of gunshot wounds, according to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office.
Deputy Stephen Snyder, who has been with the sheriff's department for four years, is on administrative leave. The incident is under investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension at the request of the Itasca County Sheriff's Office, according to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 400 block of Second St. NW in Cohasset at 2:49 a.m. on Saturday and found Schneider outside holding a shotgun. According to a news release, he pointed the gun at deputies and ignored repeated orders to put the gun down before he was shot.
Schneider was transported to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, where he died.
