BEMIDJI-Two people were airlifted to separate hospitals after a motorcycle-deer collision Wednesday evening north of Bemidji.
The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office responded to a motorcycle-deer accident on Bass Lake Road Northeast at about 8:30 p.m., about three miles north of Bemidji near the eastern border of Lake Bemidji State Park.
According to the sheriff's office, the operator of the motorcycle, Pierre Granger, 63, and his passenger Lucille Granger, 63, both of rural Bemidji, were injured their 1998 Harley Davidson collided with a deer that had entered the roadway.
Pierre Granger was evacuated from the scene by a North Memorial Helicopter to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minn., and Lucille Granger was transported by Bemidji Ambulance to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center and later airlifted to Sanford Health Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.
Both the driver and the passenger were wearing helmets and armored riding pants and jackets, the sheriff's office said. The sheriff's office was assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol, Bemidji Ambulance, the Bemidji Fire Department, North Memorial Air Care and North County First Responders.
