Two Hibbing residents died and a third was injured late Saturday night when the side of their vehicle was struck by another vehicle in Sauk Rapids, Minn., authorities reported Monday. The driver of the other vehicle was arrested.
Kevin Davey, 51, and Kathy Davey, 45, both of Hibbing, died when their vehicle traveling north on Benton Drive was struck broadside by a vehicle traveling west on Second Street North, the Sauk Rapids Police Department reported.
The two were seated in the front of their vehicle. A third occupant of the vehicle, Krista Miller, 25, also of Hibbing, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital where she was reported in good condition Monday.
The driver of the other vehicle, Tom Souvannaphong, 22, of St. Cloud, was treated at the St. Cloud Hospital and arrested on charges of criminal vehicular operation. Police said alcohol is likely a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing and officials are waiting for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to determine Souvannaphong’s blood alcohol content.
