DULUTH, Minn. -- A teenager is in critical condition in a Duluth hospital after a Monday morning accident that is being investigated as a hit-and-run.
The Minnesota State Patrol said Brandon D. Richards, 17, of Babbitt, was injured when the 2010 Dodge Avenger he was driving was struck from behind by a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme on state Highway 169 at Wahlsten Road at 10:13 a.m.
The Avenger then crossed into the northbound lane, where it was struck in the side by a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Mark L. Borchers, 61, of Akron, Iowa. The Avenger then rolled over, coming to rest on its roof.
Richards was taken to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition Tuesday. Neither Borchers nor a passenger were injured.
The driver of the Oldsmobile left the scene. Lt. Tiffani Nielson, State Patrol public information officer, said investigators are working to identify the suspect driver.
