SWAT team called in Bemidji to arrest suspect

A male suspect was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree assault after he reportedly knocked on the door to a home, threatened the residents with a knife and then fled.

A male suspect was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree assault after he reportedly knocked on the door to a home, threatened the residents with a knife and then fled.

No one was injured.

The incident was reported at 7:02 a.m. on First Street Southeast.

Police Chief Gerald Johnson said the suspect fled into his residence on the same block.

The suspect, who had not been charged as of Thursday afternoon, would not cooperate with police, Johnson said.

A search warrant was obtained. The SWAT team then went in and took the suspect into custody at about 10:30 a.m.
