State tournaments wind up local youth hockey season

The annual state tournaments throughout the state will wind up the youth hockey season for the year.

Bemidji will have representatives in two, the girls' 14-under and 12 under meets.

The 14-under meet will be played at the Iron Range Civic Center in Grand Rapids with Bemidji, Roseau and Warroad representing the north.

Other teams include Edina, Minnetonka, White Bear Lake, Centennial and Woodbury.

Bemidji will open Friday at 8 against White Bear Lake with Roseau and Woodbury completing the lower bracket.

In the upper bracket Warroad goes against Centennial and Edina against Minnetonka.

The second round is Saturday and third round Sunday with the title game at 2.

Bob Smith and Bobbi Jo Perrault are the coaches. Bemidji takes a 30-4-1 mark to the meet.

The 12-under state meet will be played at Warroad with Bemidji taking a 22-9-2 mark into play.

It will open with Stillwater at 4 p. m. Friday while Edina and Elk River complete the lower bracket.

In the upper bracket Crookston opens with White Bear Lake and Brooklyn Park with Lakeville.

Again the second round is Saturday and the third round Sunday with the title game at 2.

Shane Veenker and Chris Tolman are the 12-U c coaches.

The girls' 14-Under B tournament is set for Albert Lea with Grand Rapids the only northern team.

The 12-Under B tournament is also at Albert Lea with Duluth East and Grand Rapids the only northern teams. Bemidji does not field a girls B team in either division.

Boys' meets

The Bantam A meet will be played at New Hope with Duluth East, Moorhead and Roseau the northern teams. Blaine, Centennial, Eden Prairie, Owatonna and Edina round out the field.

The Bantam B meet is at Buffalo with Duluth East and Moorhead the only northern teams.

Others are Centennial, Chaska, Luverne, Princeton, Sauk Centre and Wayzata.

The Pee Wee A state will be played at Duluth's Lakeview Arena with Duluth East, Grand Rapids and Roseau the three northern teams.

Others are Eden Prairie, Edina, Lakeville South, Sartell and Wayzata.

The Pee Wee B meet will take place at Buffalo with Duluth East, Red Lake Falls and Moorhead as the northern teams.

The field is rounded out by Buffalo, Centennial, Chaska, Minnetonka, and Wayzata.

Duluth and Grand Rapids will play in the Junior Gold A meet at Eagan and no northern teams are in the Junior Gold B meet at Prior Lake or the 16-Under meet at Tartan.

Bemidji does not field teams in either of those three divisions.

The weekend will culminate the season for over 43,000 youth hockey players who played on 3,500 teams that competed this winter.
