Stanton LaVan "Bud" Amble, 87, of Bemidji, died on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at the home of his daughter in Bemidji.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Bemidji with Rev. Robert Munneke officiating. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji. Burial will be in the spring in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Port Hope Township, Beltrami County.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Brian Amble, Mike Amble, Steven Newman, James Newman, Jennifer Bell, Kari Erickson, Stacey Fuchsgruber and Bob Liapis.
He was born on Nov. 18, 1918, to James and Otta (Skeie) Amble, in St. Hilaire, Minn. He grew up in Grand Forks, N.D. where he graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. He married Elaine Hanson on Aug. 31, 1940, in Grand Forks. He worked for the railroad, on the track crew as a welder. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks, for accounting. He lived in Grand Forks for 33 years before moving to Bemidji where he was a self-employed accountant with Amble Accounting. He married Rosemary Given-Smith on Nov. 15, 1980, in Bemidji. He resided in Bemidji for 44 years retiring in 1996.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, past Christian education superintendent, past elder and past church treasurer, North Country Hospital past board of directors, and treasurer when they built the new hospital, member of BPOE Lodge No. 1052, VFW Post, American Legion and Sons of Norway charter member. He enjoyed welding, the outdoors, spending time with his grandchildren and playing trumpet for the Bemidji Community Band.

He is survived by his daughters, Marguerite (Don) Newman of Topeka, Kan., and Suzanne (Mike) Liapis of Bemidji; son, Gerald (Karen) Amble of Bemidji; step-daughters, Patti (Harvey) Lee of Belair, Md., and Nancy Smith of Bemidji; sister, Alva (Jack) Landon of Crookston, Minn.; and eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine; wife, Rosemary Given-Amble; brother, James Amble; sister, Anita Grina; and infant daughter, Linda Amble.
