INDEPENDENCE, Minn. -- A St. Michael man has died after his car was hit from behind by a man driving a motor home on the west side of the Twin Cities, authorities have reported.

The motor home driver had reportedly been drinking and charges are pending, according to the West Hennepin Public Safety Department.

Killed in the accident was Paul Dahlstrom, 35,  who suffered head and neck injuries in the crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 12 and County Road 92 near Independence and died Saturday at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, the Hennepin County medical examiner’s office said in a release Monday.

The motor home’s driver, Toby Giese, 42, of Kandiyohi, a small town just east of Willmar along Highway 12, and his wife, Michelle M. Giese, 43,  weren’t hurt.

Law officers said Dahlstrom’s car had slowed to make a left turn, and Toby Giese did not see the other vehicle in time, authorities said. Their motor home that was towing a trailer hit the car and then flipped, according to law officers.
