Smoke smell in Bemidji is identified

The smoke smell circulating around Bemidji today is coming from the annual "Burn the Leaves" event at the Waste Management Inc. demolition pit located at 2331 N. Plantagenet Dr. S.E., located south and east of Bemidji.

The smoke smell circulating around Bemidji today is coming from the annual "Burn the Leaves" event at the Waste Management Inc. demolition pit located at 2331 N. Plantagenet Dr. S.E., located south and east of Bemidji.

There is NO garbage being burned, just vegetative matter. This should last for 2-3 weeks, per the Waste Management company.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office issued a press released after it and the Bemidji Fire Department received numerous questions.
