The fields are down to the final two in Section 8 for the trips to the girls state basketball tournament next week.

The 8-4A title will pit top seeded St. Cloud Tech against third rated Brainerd at St. John's University Friday night.

Tech reversed the only loss on its schedule with a 68-49 win over Elk River and brings a 26-1 record into play.

Brainerd is 20-7 ending Bemidji's fine year 51-45 in the other semifinal.

Tech beat Brainerd 54-50 and 63-45 in its two meetings this winter.

The 8-3A crown will be decided by Detroit Lakes and Fergus Falls with that game set Thursday night at Moorhead State.

Fergus ended Thief River Falls' year 62-47 in the semifinals while DL ousted Sartell 56-46. Fergus won their early season meeting 46-26.

In 8-2A, Crookston and Pequot Lakes will clash Friday at Bemidji State at 7.

The 23-1 Pirates, the top seed, have lost only on a night when their scoring star Kamille Wahlin was sick and did not play. The two teams have not met this year.

Crookston ousted East Grand Forks 85-68 and Pequot ended Warroad's season 58-55 in the semifinals.

In 8A, Northern Freeze and Lake of the Woods have reached the title game which will be played at Thief River Falls Friday at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The Baudette quintet beat Red Lake County Central 50-45 for the east half title while Northern Freeze, the MCC-Tri County combo. knocked out Kittson County Central 54-40.

The Freeze won their lone meeting 51-40.

In Section 7, the 4A final will be Saturday at North Branch. Semifinals tonight match Cambridge with St. Francis and Duluth East with Blaine.

In 3A, Grand Rapids and Hibbing will lock horns at the University of Minnesota-Duluth Friday night.

The Rapids ousted Cloquet 58-38 and Hibbing topped Hermantown 58-53 in the semifinals.

In 2A, tonight's semifinals match Virginia with Hinckley and Deer River with Esko at UMD.

The final is Saturday night at the same site.

The 7A semis tomorrow at UMD match Nashwauk-Keewatin with Bigfork for the north title and Floodwood with Wrenshall for the south. Their final is Saturday afternoon at UMD.

Ada and Hancock will meet for then 6A championship at Minnesota-Morris Friday night. Ada ended the LPA year 59-35 and Hancock beat Ashby.
