Robert "Bob" Vick, 85, of Bemidji, formerly of Ft. Worth, Texas, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at his home in Bemidji.
A celebration of his life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji with Rev. Jack High officiating.
He was born Nov. 25, 1922, to Mattie Ellen (Horton) and John William Vick in Colgate, Okla. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma on the GI Bill in petroleum engineering. He married Shirley May Kitch Aug. 10, 1949, in the home of her parents, William and Helen Kitch, of Oklahoma City, Okla. They moved to Big Spring, Texas, where he began his career with Phillips Petroleum.
His career in petroleum engineering spanned from 1940-1996. He was president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and is a lifelong honorary member. He was written up in the Wall Street Journal as one of the leading engineers in his field. He retired to Bemidji in 1996 to their cabin on Woman Lake. During these years, he enjoyed spending vacations with his grandson on Woman Lake, fishing, golfing and teaching him carpentry skills.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Johanna; and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
