Rev. Leonard F. Fineday (Chi-Ma-Nana-Kwad), 77, of Cass Lake, Minnesota, had complications due to a recently diagnosed illness and went Home to be with the Lord he loved on Monday, February 19, 2007 at North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 23 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, Minnesota with Bishop Dean Clough officiating. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the funeral services. Visitation will be held 5:00-6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22 with a 6:00 p.m. service Thursday evening at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Cass Lake, MN under the direction of the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers are: Tim Brown, George Collins, Richard Cutbank, Leo Keesic, Andrew Lindgren, James Moses, Ray Oouthoudt, George Ross, Dale Smith, Wayne Smith, Robert Thrash and Herman Williams.

Pallbearers are his children: Sarah Fineday, Rebekah Fineday, David Fineday, Lois Brown and husband Barry, Lenny Fineday, Jacob Fineday and Ami Fineday.

Leonard Floyd Fineday was born June 12, 1929 in Cloquet, MN to Jack and Katherine (Wakanabo) Fineday. He attended school at Squaw Lake, Bena and Pipestone Indian Boarding School. Leonard worked in various logging camps in Northern Minnesota as a piece cutter. After losing his left leg in a hit and run accident in the late 1960's, he was delivered from alcohol by accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He then attended Mo-Kah-Um Indian Bible School and graduated in 1973. He pastored at Nett Lake Baptist Church in Nett Lake, MN. He married Mary Moret in Ponemah, MN in 1974. They moved to Cass Lake where he founded Mo-Kah-Um Indian Bible Chapel. While pastoring Mo-Kah-Um, he also held church services in Bena, MN. Those services later moved to Sugar Point. During this time, he became an ordained minister with the Pentecostal Church of God. Up until his death, he was pastoring Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God in Cass Lake and New Life Church in Sugar Point. He also held Bible studies throughout Leech Lake Reservation. He was involved in the jail ministry in Beltrami and Cass Counties and he was an active community member attending various events and meetings.

He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved his wife, his seven children and his two granddaughters and took an active interest in each of their lives. He loved the people he served and the pastors with whom he served. He loved to visit people and share God's Word whenever he could.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, Cass Lake; 7 children, Sarah L. Fineday, Cass Lake, Rebekah J. Fineday, Cass Lake, David E. Fineday, Bemidji, Lois K. (Barry) Brown, Bemidji, Leonard M. Fineday, Cass Lake, Jacob M. Fineday, Bemidji and Ami F. Fineday, Cass Lake; Grandchildren, Camdyn Fineday, Cass Lake and Zoe Brown, Bemidji; Brother, Eugene "Ribs" Whitebird, Cass Lake; Sister, Nancy Whitebird, Cass Lake; and Aunt, Lucille Wakanabo, Cass Lake.

Preceded in death by parents, two brothers and one sister.
