Ray Gene Kvale, 77, of Herman, Minn., died on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, in Morris, Minn.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Bethel Lutheran in Herman. Burial will be in Aardahl Cemetery, Frohn Township, Beltrami County. The Ranney Funeral Home of Wheaton, Minn. assisted the family with arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Larson, Bob Uhden, Dave Austvold, Gary Smith, Sterling Luikens and Jack Lampert.

Pallbearers will be Paul Kvale, Scott Kvale, Kurt Kvale, Christopher Kvale, Carl Kvale and Mark Amundson.

He was born on Dec. 17, 1928, to George and Izola (Morgan) Kvale, in Nary. He attended Sunnyside School in Frohn Township and later graduated from Bemidji High School with the Class of 1947. After high school, he moved out west to live and work in Portland, Ore. He returned to the Bemidji area and married Betty Goodnough on Feb. 2, 1951, in Bagley. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He moved to Herman in 1954 and went to work for Minnesota Valley Breeders in the field of artificial insemination of both dairy and beef cattle. He was also employed for many years at Larson Farm Supply and also was employed for many years for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, C. Walter Larson Legion Post of Herman. H was also a long time member of the Herman Fire Department. He was also a long time member of the Donnelly Rod and Gun Club of Donnelly, Minn. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed bowling and gardening. He also enjoyed a good joke and a game of cards.

He is survived by his wife of Herman; sons, Paul (Pat) Kvale, Scott Kvale of Bemidji and Kurt (Claire) Kvale of Duluth, Minn.; daughter, Sue (Mark) Amundson of Herman; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
