LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (AP) - A Randall man is being held on $1 million bail for allegedly killing a 2-year-old Morrison County boy who died from severe head trauma.

Thirty-three-year-old Robert Eugene O'Jala is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. The criminal complaint says O'Jala is dating the boy's mother.

O'Jala allegedly injured the boy on Monday and the child died Wednesday.

The criminal complaint says the boy was sleeping when his mother went to work Monday. O'Jala called her that morning to say something was wrong.

O'Jala initially said the boy choked while eating. But doctors say the boy had massive brain damage and was likely picked up and swung onto his head.

The criminal complaint says O'Jala then admitted to lifting the boy up by the arms and throwing him down.

O'Jala didn't immediately return a message left Sunday at the Morrison County jail.

Prosecutors are still weighing whether to seek a first-degree murder indictment.
