The Pike Bay Township Board put Police Chief Robert Karbowski on paid administrative leave Monday.
Board Chairman Vern Barsness said he could not comment on the reason for the action, but the board will meet again in two weeks to consider the next step.
Karbowski, who is also an active part-time Cass County deputy, said he has been advised by his attorney not to discuss the reason for the board's action.
Karbowski is the original Pike Bay Police chief. He took the position when the force was organized six years ago. The Pike Bay Police force currently consists of four full-time officers, two part-time and Karbowski.
He said he also worked for about 10 years as a Cass Lake Police officer.
