ST. PAUL (AP) - Governor Tim Pawlenty is taking the reins of another national group. This time, it's the Education Commission of the States.

Pawlenty will take over as chairman of the organization this summer, just as the Republican governor leaves his job as chairman of the National Governors Association.

Both organizations have rotating chairman positions between Democratic and Republican governors.

The Denver-based education commission was created as a nonprofit in 1965 to spur policy discussion and the exchange of education ideas among political and school leaders.

Pawlenty will hold the title until the summer of 2010, the final year of his current term as Minnesota's governor.
