The 2006 Beltrami County political party caucuses will be held beginning at 7 p.m. today at various locations.
Precinct caucuses are the beginning of the process that Minnesota's major parties use for choosing the candidates and issues they will support in the 2006 elections. Currently, Minnesota has three major parties, which received at least 5 percent of the total number of votes for a statewide partisan office in the last two elections. The major parties are Democrat-Farmer-Labor, Independence and Republican.
The Independence Party will hold caucuses in area cities of Detroit Lakes, Alexandria, Moorhead, Crookston, Fergus Falls, Brainerd and Grand Rapids, but not in Bemidji
