Gov. Tim Pawlenty's final State of the State speech on Thursday focused primarily on the economy and the need to create more jobs for Minnesotans. But he also touched on other subjects, such as health (allowing people to purchase health insurance across state lines) and education.
On the latter, he said that "many of our students are doing very well. But let's face the facts: too many are not. We've enacted nation-leading reforms to improve our schools, but we must do more."
His proposal: at least for major urban areas, put the mayor n charge of the public school system.
