The controlled access North Country Regional Hospital imposed during the weekend has been lifted, and visiting arrangements are back to normal.

NCRH and local law enforcement were working Friday night to limit access to the hospital. The hospital evening instituted emergency plans for a hospital "shutdown," a procedure to restrict who comes and goes from the facility. Penny Echternach, NCHS Foundation executive director, said Monday that visitors were allowed to see patients during the weekend, but visitors were asked to make it clear who they wanted to see.

"Essentially, there was no specific threat, but there were some concerns we wanted to take very seriously," Echternach said. "So, in the interests of our patients and our staff, we took some precautions over the weekend."
