No. 2 Wisconsin outlasts BSU 2-0

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin rode an outstanding performance from goaltender Jessie Vetter who stopped all 20 Bemidji State shots to pick a 2-0 shutout win over the Beavers Friday afternoon.

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin rode an outstanding performance from goaltender Jessie Vetter who stopped all 20 Bemidji State shots to pick a 2-0 shutout win over the Beavers Friday afternoon.

Sara Bauer picked up two points on the day to lead the Badgers in the victory.

The two teams skated to a 0-0 deadlock heading into the first intermission. Wisconsin outshot the Beavers 9-7 in the period with Bemidji State goaltender Emily Brookshaw stopping all nine shots that she faced, while Vetter stopping all seven of the shots she faced in the period to keep the game scoreless.

Wisconsin picked up the game's first goal at the 6-minute mark of the second period when Bauer, the nation's second-leading scorer netted her 22nd goal of the season for the Badgers with help from Tia Hanson and Bobbi-Jo Slusar. Bauer's goal was the lone goal in the second period and the Badgers skated into the second intermission with a 1-0 lead.

The Badgers pushed its lead to 2-0 at 5:20 of the third period when Meaghan Mikkleson recorded her ninth goal of the season to give the Badgers a two goal lead early in the third period. Sara Bauer and Jinelle Zaugg picked up the helpers on Mikkleson's goal.

Bemidji State pulled it's goaltender with 1:22 left in the contest but was unable to create any scoring opportinties as the Badgers shut down the Beavers offensive attack and held onto a 2-0 shutout victory over the Beavers.

Wisconsin outshot the Beavers 29-to-20 in the contest. Shots on goal for the game were 9-to-7 in the first period, 9-to-6 in the second period and 11-to-7 in the third period all in favor of the Badgers.

Brookshaw took the loss for the Beavers as she stopped 27 of 29 shots faced in 58:38 minutes of work, dropping her record to 10-17-5 on the season for the Beavers.

Vetter picked up the win to reach 15-1-3 on the season.

With the loss the Beavers are now 1-29-1 all-time versus the Badgers from Wisconsin. Bemidji State and (11-17-5, 9-14-4 WCHA) will wrap up its two game series with Wisconsin (28-1-4, 22-1-4 WCHA) this afternoon at 2:07 p.m. from the Eagle's Nest in Verona, Wis.
