BEMIDJI - The Minnesota Department of Transportation is reminding ATV riders that it is illegal to operate within the construction zone at the U.S. Highway 2-state Highway 89 intersection reconstruction, a release said.
The overpass construction area is marked with orange snow fences and black silt fences. It does not affect the main Wilton Northwest ATV trails, but access to the parking area on Pete Lane is detoured south of the project area.
"ATV operators have been driving over the perimeter fences that mark the project area," Troy Strassburg, project engineer, said in the release. "It creates potential damage to the construction site with unsafe conditions for both ATV riders and workers."
ATV operators are liable for damage caused in a construction zone and expenses and penalties will apply to riders who negligently ride through a construction zone.
