HORACE, N.D. - Wild Rice Bar and Grill owner Bruce Schauer said he's seen a lot of inappropriate Halloween costumes at his establishment over the past 24 years, but nothing quite like what one patron wore on Saturday, Oct. 28.
An unidentified man entered the Horace bar about 10 that night wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood and robe. The man was in the bar for a total of 36 minutes, and security camera footage shows people posing for photos with him.
"It just goes to show where America is at in 2017," said 56-year-old Schauer. "It says a lot about our country, doesn't it?"
Schauer said he was not working Saturday night, but his employees told him the man in the KKK costume showed up with a group of people on a party bus. Schauer said he did not know who the man was.
It's a long-standing rule on Halloween to have people remove masks when ordering a drink, Schauer said, but the patron was just walking around and didn't ask for a drink.

Employees were so busy, he said, they didn't have time to address the patron. But he said they all thought it was very inappropriate.
"We definitely don't condone anything like that," Schauer said.
