Mahnomen couple victims of homicide

At about 2:30 a.m. Friday, the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Morrison County Sheriff's Office with information that there might have been a double homicide and vehicle theft from Mahnomen County.

At about 2:30 a.m. Friday, the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Morrison County Sheriff's Office with information that there might have been a double homicide and vehicle theft from Mahnomen County.

According to a press release from Mahnomen County Sheriff Doug Krier:

While Mahnomen County deputies were looking into the situation, Morrison County officials notified the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office that they had located the stolen pickup truck in Benton County. The pickup was being driven from a person from Mahnomen County.

Deputies and White Earth Tribal Police officers went to the residence of the registered owner of the pickup and discovered a deceased man and woman inside the home. Both victims appeared to have been shot.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was called in to help with the investigation. The BCA Crime Scene Team with the Mobile Crime Lab remains on the scene this morning.

The names of the Mahnomen area victims are being withheld pending notification of family members.

The suspect is being held in the Benton County Jail pending further investigation. No other suspects are being sought.
