Mabel H. Dick, 91, of Kansas, formerly of Hines, died Sunday Jan. 27, 2008, of congestive heart failure at Galichia Hospital in Wichita, Kan.

A memorial service will be held in the spring.

She was born March 28, 1916, to Oscar and Christine Hansen in Bergville. A few years later, her family moved to Alvwood, where she attended Shallow Pond School then went to Grand Rapids for high school. She resided in a boarding house and cleaned house in exchange for her room and board.

She married Harry L. Dick, of Burton, Kan., Sept. 25, 1935, when he was in the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in Alvwood. They lived in Alvwood and later moved to Hutchinson, Kan., for 25 years then returned to Minnesota where they bought an 80-acre farm and lived there for more than 30 years.

She bowled on two leagues in Blackduck and belonged to the Lady Slippers Club. She loved doing all of her needle work, playing cards and she could not wait to get on the dance floor.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Hines and liked sharing her time with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Deloris West (Ronald) of Wichita, Kan.; one daughter-in-law; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Richard H. Dick; parents; brothers, Leonard, Lloyd and Gene Hansen; sisters, Stella Higgins, Dora Smittle, Edna Pafko and Viola Deloris Hansen.
