The Bemidji High softball team made the long trip to Duluth East a shorter ride home by winning over the Greyhounds Thursday 6-1.

Justine Ossman and Elissa Port combined on a three hitter, Ossman going the first five for her third win.

She fanned three and walked three. Port had three strikeouts in two innings of scoreless relief.

Bemidji spotted East a run in the second on a triple by Ellin Maddy and error, then shut down the host team the rest of the day.

Bemidji went ahead with four in the fourth. Kyla Barbeson walked Brittany Black and Brittany Thompson to open the frame. Alice Storey's single loaded the bases.

Ossman cashed two with a single and one baggers by Nicole Stevens and Amy Boyer each plated another run.

In the sixth, Ossman singled, took second on a passed ball, stole third when the bag was left uncovered and scored as the throw to third went into left field.

Stevens followed with a triple and scored on a single by Amber Teal.

Thompson, Ossman, Stevens and Courtney Josefson all had two hits for Bemidji. Stevens' triple was the only extra base hit.

Port will get the start Tuesday when Bemidji travels to Coleraine. It plays at Red River Thursday and returns to the Cloquet Invitational Saturday, facing three games that day.

The win lifted Bemidji to 7-2.

B Team wins

The B Team made is a complete sweep with a 10-0 victory in six innings.

Chelsea Yost yielded her first two hits of the year but went the route for her fourth win despite pitching with shoulder tightness.

Both base runners were erased on the bases as she faced only 18 hitters.

Bemidji pounded out 14 hits with Haley Johnson, Julie Erickson, Chelsey Ramsrud, Tara Ripplinger and Yost all getting two hits. Ramsrud had the only extra base hit, a double.

Yost fanned four in reaching 4-0 on the year. The B Team is 5-1 and also plays at Coleraine Tuesday.
