The Bemidji Lumberjacks basketball team ran into a stream roller Saturday and was flattened by Apollo 81-38 on the Eagles court.

The 19-4 Eagles, the pre-season favorite in Section 8-4A, are currently ranked third behind Buffalo and Moorhead.

That was caused mainly by Moorhead's 16-point win over the Eagles in the season opener.

But having faced Moorhead twice, it might be hard to convince the Jacks that Apollo is not the better team.

The Eagles effectively ended the game after three minutes, jumping to a 13-0 lead and going on to take a 52-16 bulge by halftime.

In addition to the opening run, they had runs of 11 and five midway through the period and an 11-point spurt near the end.

Big Seth Noreen was scoring freely inside and the outside snipers were hitting steadily with both Preston Whitaker and Nick Simon nailing treys.

Jeff Schaper had six of Bemidji's meager output with Doug Bender and Chris Marty adding four.

The starters returned for 30 seconds of the second half before retiring for the night.

Before the game ended Apollo sent 16 players into action and saw 13 of them score.

Schaper ended with 11 to lead Bemidji. No one else had more than six.

Noreen closed with 15 and Simon added 13, the only Eagles in double figures.

Bemidji managed only 11 field goals. Apollo had 31.

The Jacks return home Tuesday to take on Detroit Lakes, a team that won 59-43 at DL Duluth Central will end the year here Thursday night.

The loss dropped the Jacks to 5-18.

The B Team fared no better, also dropping to 5-18 with a 68-44 lacing.

Again the Eagles put the game away early taking a 32-19 halftime lead and adding another 11 to the margin after the break.

Horce Wimberly led the winners with 19. Zach Noreen added 13 and Andre Garth 11.

All ten players who scored also played in the varsity game with seven of those 10 scoring.

Ryan Telander had 19 for Bemidji, a season high. No one else topped seven.

There was no freshman game.
