Lorraine Highum Holt, age 90, resident of Pine Ridge in Hudson, WI and formerly of Bemidji, MN, Bloomington, MN and Grand Forks, ND, went home to be with her Lord on March 3, 2008. She was surrounded by her family during her passing at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Lorraine was born on August 21, 1917 in Wildrose, ND to Carl O. and Olive (Johnson) Highum. She was a graduate of the University of North Dakota holding degrees in teaching and social work. Lorraine was united in marriage to Arthur E. Holt on July 20, 1940. Their union was blessed with two sons, Jon and Henry "Chip." After raising her boys, she spent many years as an elementary school teacher in both the Grand Forks and Bloomington school district, retiring in 1982. Arthur and Lorraine belonged and were active in the Lutheran Churches where they lived: United Lutheran in Grand Forks, Christ the King Lutheran in Bloomington, and First Lutheran in Bemidji. Lorraine was a lifetime member of P.E.O., an avid piano player; she loved music, education, and children. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Josephine; and brother, Orville. Lorraine is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 68 years, Arthur; sons, Jon (Lynn) Holt of Newberg, OR and Henry "Chip" Holt (Bonnie Bakke) of Hudson; grandchildren, Allison Marie Holt, Joel Holt, Abigail Hodge, and Justin, Lisa & Erik Bakke; great-grandchildren, Michael, Morgan, Carter, Claire & Grace; sister, Helen Highum; and numerous nieces & nephews. In August, a celebration of her life will be held in Bemidji. Arrangements for a private memorial service in Hudson are pending. Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers.
