Wilton apartment fire causes minor damage

WILTON — An apartment suffered minor damage after a fire broke out Monday afternoon in Wilton.

According to a release from the Bemidji Fire Department, at 4:20 p.m. on Monday, April 18, firefighters responded to the report of a fire in an apartment building at 272 Spirit Ave. NW in Wilton, west of Bemidji.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found smoke and fire in a second-story apartment and used a fire extinguisher to quickly put out the fire, the release said. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour, with 22 firefighters and eight pieces of equipment.

The apartment sustained minor damage and adjacent apartment units sustained minor smoke damage.

No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation but appears to be accidental in nature, the release said.

The Bemidji Fire Department was assisted by the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Bemidji Ambulance Service, Minnesota State Patrol and Ottertail Power Company.
