BEMIDJI — Thousands gathered at the Beltrami County Fairgrounds on Wednesday for the first day of the fair.
Along with the traditional carnival rides, barns full of animals and everyone's favorite fair food, fair-goers also were treated to a concert from Poppa Bear Norton in the grandstand and several 4-H horse shows. There was also a llama and alpaca show, along with a dog agility demonstration.
Remaining fair events
On Thursday, a Motocross Hot Laps race will take place at 6 p.m. followed by a feature race at 7 p.m.

The annual United Way of Bemidji Area's Coats for the Community distribution will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 1, at First Lutheran Church, 900 Bemidji Ave. N. Anyone in need is welcome to collect winter items.
