Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force releases quarterly snapshot

BEMIDJI — The Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force recently released its fourth-quarter snapshot for 2021.

The following incidents resulted in seizures and arrests from October through December.

A narcotics investigation from January through December subsequently led to a traffic stop on two subjects traveling to the Cass Lake, Bemidji and Hubbard County areas. A vehicle search warrant was executed and law enforcement seized 35 tabs of LSD, 41.5 prescription pills, 471 ecstasy pills and one vehicle held pending administrative forfeiture.

Charges were forwarded to the Hubbard County Attorney on an adult male and an adult female for first-degree drug sales.

October

Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force agents and the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department arrested two people on felony warrants. A search of their vehicle yielded 39 grams of purported fentanyl.

In International Falls, a PBDTF agent, the International Falls Police Department and the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on an adult male and a residence on 20th Avenue. During the search, approximately 17.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine was located and the male was arrested for third-degree possession of a controlled substance.

The Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and Bemidji Police Department executed two search warrants in Bemidji, which resulted in charges on one adult male for third-degree possession of a controlled substance.

During this investigation, agents seized 24 pounds of marijuana, three pounds of marijuana wax and $34,710, held for administrative forfeiture.

The PBDTF assisted the Bemidji Police Department with a search warrant execution on Irvine Avenue. Approximately 552 grams of white powdery substance was seized — of which, 231 grams tested positive for fentanyl.

Two handguns were also seized, along with $102,000 for administrative forfeiture. Charges were forwarded to the Beltrami County Attorney’s office on one adult male for first-degree drug sales, and a second adult male was charged with third-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, agents with the PBDTF provided information to the Minnesota State Patrol who stopped a vehicle in Morrison County, seizing about 456 grams of suspected methamphetamine and arresting one adult male for first-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Agents with the PBDTF, Minnesota BCA, West Central Violent Crime Task Force and Ottertail County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in rural Ottertail County. About 207 grams of purported methamphetamine, four grams of purported heroin, one firearm and $1,100 were seized. Three were arrested for controlled substance crimes and firearm violations.

The PBDTF executed a search warrant for illegal drugs in response to a recent overdose that had occurred in Cass Lake. Law enforcement seized a small amount of methamphetamine, 8.03 grams of fentanyl, a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition. One adult male was arrested for third-degree possession and as a felon in possession of a firearm.

An agent with the PBDTF provided information to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office on an individual with a felony Department of Corrections warrant who was also a suspect in an ongoing narcotics investigation. A traffic stop was initiated near Walker and the individual was arrested on his warrant.

Law enforcement recovered 101.2 grams of fentanyl from the stop along with $1,032, which is being held for administrative forfeiture. The party was arrested for first-degree sale of a controlled substance.

The PBDTF, with assistance from Leech Lake Tribal Police Department and Cass County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at a Cass Lake residence.

Agents seized 13.54 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 5.21 grams of suspected fentanyl, 47.06 grams of suspected marijuana, six pills, one stolen 9mm handgun, ammunition, drug paraphernalia and $860, which was held for administrative forfeiture. Four were arrested on various drug and non-drug charges, and four children were placed on holds.

Agents with the PBDTF, the Minnesota BCA, West Central Violent Crime Task Force and Becker County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in rural Becker County. Agents executed a search warrant on a vehicle involved in an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Drug paraphernalia and about 286 grams of purported methamphetamine were located inside the vehicle. Two adult males were arrested for controlled substance crimes and one adult female was arrested on an active warrant and false name.

In International Falls, a PBDTF agent assisted the International Falls Police Department in the arrest of an adult male on possession of a controlled substance after officers seized about 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine during a traffic stop.

Two adult males were arrested by the PBDTF with assistance from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office for first-degree sale of a controlled substance. Approximately 18 grams of suspected fentanyl was seized along with $3,869 for administrative forfeiture. One of the individuals was also charged with fifth-degree possession and the second individual was charged with third-degree possession.

In International Falls, a PBDTF agent assisted the International Falls Police Department with an active domestic assault. One adult male was arrested as a felon in possession of a firearm and third-degree possession. Officers seized 6.92 grams of cocaine, one handgun and 11 rounds of ammunition and a magazine.

The PBDTF executed a search warrant at a Cass Lake residence for a controlled substance investigation. Agents located and seized drug paraphernalia and 71.79 grams of suspected fentanyl. One male was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
