BEMIDJI — The Bemidji State and Northwest Technical College presidential search continues with the Minnesota State Board of Trustees set to consider Chancellor Devinder Malhotra’s recommendation on Wednesday, March 16.
At 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday the Workforce and Organizational Effectiveness Committee will meet to hear Malhotra’s recommendation for the president. Malhotra is expected to share some remarks illustrating why the candidate was selected.
The BSU/NTC presidency is the second of three positions being discussed at this meeting, which lasts until 11:15 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m., the Board of Trustees will convene and confirmation of an appointment of the president-designate is on the board’s agenda. If confirmed, the president-designate will address the board following the vote.
The vote for the BSU/NTC president will be the second of three votes on appointments at this specific meeting.

The full board schedule is available online. Meetings may begin up to 45 minutes earlier than the times listed if a committee meeting concludes its business before the end of its allotted time slot.
Both sessions will be streamed and connection information is available at www.minnstate.edu/board/index.html
If confirmed on Wednesday, Malhotra and the president-designate will visit Bemidji for meet-and-greets at both BSU and NTC on Thursday, March 17.
The first meet-and-greet is scheduled from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the NTC cafeteria. The second meet-and-greet will take place from 11 a.m. to noon in the Beaux Arts Ballroom at BSU.
The Bemidji community is invited to both events. While held primarily in person, remote options will also be available when finalized.
The search comes after President Faith Hensrud’s retirement announcement in August 2021 following five years in the position. With the end of her tenure coming up on June 30, Minnesota State launched the search process for her replacement in September 2021.
The four presidential finalists visited campus Feb. 14-17 after being recommended by a search advisory committee composed of students, faculty, staff and community leaders.
The anticipated start date of the new president is July 1.
