Has anyone thought about the lesson taught to students by (Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School) Superintendent Carol Aenne when "in an effort to maintain order" she notified evacuated students that their dismissal was due to "weather related concerns" rather than to give no reason or to be honest and up front about the threat?
Just when is it acceptable to tell a lie? If I were one of her students, I might conclude that anytime the truth might cause a teacher to be upset, I might lie about my homework to maintain order in the classroom. Later, when I learned the truth, the lesson might be that I was not trusted to act responsibly when faced with an unpleasant reality.
We are becoming so used to frequent lying by the leaders of our society from the President on down that it seems to have become endemic everywhere. We were taught that truth was always essential and sometimes painful.
Ah! The good old days.
