Would DFL Senate 4 candidates Mary Olson and Irene Folstrom raise the gas tax, if elected? While both expressed mixed feelings about raising the tax in a recent forum, both women also implied that they would consider it, if it would benefit "rural Minnesota."

What would benefit rural Minnesota is reduced taxes, not increases. Maybe some people have gotten used to gasoline over $2 per gallon, but it was only 10 years ago when the price was under a dollar. Here in rural Minnesota, we do not have the economic resources to continue to shoulder a greater and greater tax burden dumped on us by tax-first DFL leaders in St. Paul.

Sen. Carrie Ruud is a representative that we can count on to stand up to the DFL tax machine. Carrie opposes increasing the gasoline tax under any circumstances and instead supports the governor's transportation package, which would accelerate road projects in northern Minnesota without raising taxes. Let's vote for Sen. Ruud again this fall.
