As a resident of Bemidji who has owned a downtown pharmacy the past 18 years, I have watched the events center project go through many ups and downs. But even with those ups and downs, I have been impressed with the effort being made by several groups to put together an events center that will truly benefit our entire community for decades to come.
With the downtown redevelopment study soon starting, I am sure we will see how important this project will be to a strong downtown. This is the regional draw we need to show off our city to visitors. We need this to attract small conventions, concerts and athletic events to Bemidji. With added visitors will come added sales tax revenue, jobs and economic growth for our city.
We are presented with a rare opportunity now to do something that can really show off our community to the rest of the world. It is a project that will help tourism, help BSU and host a variety of events that we all can enjoy.
