This letter is regarding the governor veto override by all of the Democrats in the Legislature, and six GOP representatives to put in place the approximate $7 billion tax increase to Minnesota taxpayers in the future. This tax increase includes 8.5 cents per gallon fuel costs, license tab tax increase, sales tax increase, car rental tax increase and new excise tax on vehicle purchases. The rural sales tax increase will be on a referendum. This is the largest tax increase in modern Minnesota history.

A statement from Gov. Pawlenty says, "The DFL-controlled Legislature's override of this veto shows they're clearly out of touch with Minnesotans who are facing rising gas prices, heating costs and other expenses in tough economic times. Raising taxes is always the DFL's go-to solution and that's bad for Minnesota families and our economy."

Please understand, I am all in favor of maintaining roads and bridges for public safety, and I realize this comes with a high cost; however, some people were not aware there was a plan that had been approved by the governor that would achieve the same end result prior to his veto, at a lesser cost to Minnesota taxpayers. This apparently was not good enough for our elected representatives, so the veto was overruled. In the future, while you are fueling your vehicle at prices near $4 per gallon, consider who you should, or perhaps better said, whom you should not vote for to be our elected representatives.
