Cass Lake-Bena boy's basketball has brought a spotlight on our communities again, auspiciously for good reasons, not the latest disagreement or horrendous and highly publicized act of violence. Losing only one game the entire season, no doubt hopes are high for a successful post-season and the third state tournament appearance in six years. The success of the team is a real milestone for each person affiliated with the program.

It is all too often the tragic and dreadful news of drug activity and violence preempts our stories of hope and optimism. While we have obstacles to overcome, the basketball team has proven if we work together, we can conquer the hardest obstacle or opponent. They have also shown that in the event of a defeat, we need to return to the court or life as we know it, and get back together and look at what we can do better next time.

I would like to congratulate the 2005-06 Cass Lake-Bena boy's basketball team on a very successful season. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank each one of these young men that step on the court, and all athletes who wear and respect the Panther uniform, for being such a bright positive beacon and inspiration for our communities. In addition, I challenge each basketball fan in the area to support our beacon courtside. Good luck in the tournaments!
