WALKER -- The Leech Lake Regatta is sometimes tagged as Minnesota’s largest regatta. The 44th sailing of the Leech Lake Regatta will take place Aug. 8 -10. Typically, regattas are a morning or afternoon race around a simple triangle, but the Leech Lake Regatta is sailed over three days. Each day’s race is one segment of the event, and if winds are good, the racers will cover most of Leech Lake. The startline will likely be on the east side of the Walker Narrows with the first gun at about 10:30 a.m. Aug. 8. The sailboats will go out in two fleets with many divisions within each fleet.
