Laura DiMaulo Ward, 66, of Bemidji, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a battle of cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1940, to Giovanni and Libera (Ranalli) DiMaulo, in Rome, Italy. She lived in Rome for 22 years before marrying Donald Ward and moving to the United States and obtaining full citizenship. Before the cancer took hold of her body, she lived a very active life. She was full of energy that contributed to her passion for swimming, bicycling, walking, bowling and playing tennis. She worked for many years in retail sales and customer service positions. She also taught an Italian language course through the community education program.

She was a member of both the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She was also an active participant in the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her children, Sandra (Keith) Fehrman of Minoqua, Wis.; Jackie Wizner of Walker and Brian Ward of Sanford, Fla.; brother, Giancarlo DiMaulo of Rome; and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Donald Ward; and an infant son.
