Maggi Stivers | Bemidji Pioneer Toddy’s Pub and Grub, located at 119 Third St. NW, has become a staple for live music on the weekends in Bemidji.

BEMIDJI-Just more than six months ago, a group of four came together and became one.

"I just wanted to do it as a practice to jam with people but we started writing really good music," said Brady Goble, guitarist and manager of None The Less.

None The Less, a metal band from Walker, consists of Derrik Aldaco, vocals; Tias Gamache, bass and vocals; Tyler Gamache on drums, along with Goble.

None The Less recently recorded an EP to be released in the spring but the group stays busy performing live. And they've found a relatively close place in Bemidji to hone their sound.

None The Less's next performance is set for Dec. 5 at Toddy's Pub and Grub, which has become a staple for live music on the weekends in Bemidji.

"Well I think most people expect us to have live music on the weekends. They come in and we have people call asking 'What's the band?,'" said Todd Bartels, owner of Toddy's Pub and Grub.

Several bands who perform, including None The Less, are from the local area.

"There's a lot of great talent in the Bemidji area and there's several local bands we rotate through, Mad Dog Morgan, Phoenix Rises, Acoust Hicks, Obstruction of Justice, Kitchi Boogie, just to name a few," Bartels said.

Bands from the St. Cloud, Fargo, and Twin Cities have also performed in the past."Sometimes it's a gamble because it's a band that not a lot of people have heard of, but it usually is great music all the time, it's seldom that we have a dud," Bartels said.

Toddy's Pub and Grub shows often vary in genre.

"From rock n roll to metal to a lot of blues," Bartels said, "We do have a lot of these metal nights where there's smaller local bands that maybe don't have enough in their repertoire to do a full four show."

That's the case for show on Dec. 5. Besides None The Less, the show will feature Tomorrow Brings New Blood of Minneapolis, Beastface of Minneapolis and For What It's Worth of Brainerd.

Each band brings a different style of metal to the show.

"For What It's Worth, they are very similar to Theory of a Deadman, they are kind of like the Nickelback of the group. Then you got Tomorrow Brings New Blood, they are the heaviest and Beastface, they are kind of like System Of A Down and us (None The Less) kind of in the middle," Goble said.

Goble hopes that None The Less will be able to perform at Toddy's Pub and Grub during each season.

"It's a blessing because to play local music up here. We have to travel three hours to perform, they (Toddy's Pub and Grub) are one of the good places," Goble said.
