John Orrin Anderson, 79, of southwest Rochester, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, of cancer.

The funeral was held April 19 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rochester. The Rev. David Berg officiated. There will be a private family service in the Pinewood Dodge Cemetery at a later date. The Johnson Funeral Home in Rochester assisted the family with arrangements.

He was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Clyde, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 19, 1946, to Jan. 13, 1948. On June 9, 1956, he married Naomi Ruth Henson in Bemidji. He lived in Guthrie from 1956 to 1959; Walker, from 1959 to 1961; Bemidji from 1961 to 1964; Rochester from 1964 to 1971; and Waldorf, Minn., from 1971 to 2001. Since 2001, he had resided in Rochester and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He also belonged to the Waldorf American Legion and loved the outdoors, gardening and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Becky (Ken) Meyer and Linda (Mark) Persson, both of Rochester, Carol (Steve) Good of Eden Prairie, Minn., Peggy (Scott) Kelly of Shakopee, Minn., and Tammy (Chris) Englund of Mounds View, Minn.; son, Mitch (Caroline) of Rochester; 13 grandchildren; and brother, Roy (Sue) of Oregon City, Ore.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, three sons and a daughter.
