James O. Odegard, 69, of Southgate, Calif., formerly of Bemidji, died on Thursday, March 2, 2006.

A funeral was held on March 6 at St. Helen's Catholic Church in South Gate, Calif. The Forest Lawn Mortuary of Long Beach, Calif. assisted the family with arrangements.

He was born on July 15, 1936, to Ole and Mayme (Bunt) Odegard, in Phillips, Wis. He moved to Bemidji at age 5 and attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Bemidji High School. He then served two years in the military, during which time his family moved to California. He worked many years at Young Market Co. in Los Angeles, Calif., and retired in 1996.

He always enjoyed returning to Bemidji to visit and keep in contact with his friends and classmates and also the latest updates of the Bemidji area.

He is survived by his sisters, Betty (Bernie) Boerger of Lakelawn, Colo., Shirley Simon Murrieta of California, Carol (Jim) Faircloth of Big Pine Key, Fla., and Patricia Odegard of South Gate; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leone Loper; and two brothers-in-law.
