Helen Katherine (Weeks) Dennis, 101, of Northome, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the Northome Health Care Center.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Northome with the Rev. Ron Booth officiating. Reviewal will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cease Funeral Home Chapel in Blackduck. There will be no reviewal at the church. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Northome. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted the family with arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Tyrone Nyberg, Jason Dennis, Ryan Schmitz, Scott Mohs, Jared Wasserzierher and Dylan Wasserzierher.

She was born Sept. 20, 1906, to William and Jessie Bell (Mercer) Weeks in Spooner, Wis. Her family moved to Williston, N.D., when she was a young girl. She grew up there and married Joseph A. Dennis June 30, 1924. They moved from there to Minneapolis for the next eight years. They moved to Mizpah in 1936 and started farming. She began working as the head cook at the North Haven Nursing Home when it opened in 1963, and was there until her retirement in 1971. She was a wonderful cook, and everyone loved her fried chicken, cherry pie and sugar cookies. She resided in Mizpah until she entered the nursing home on Dec. 14, 1998.

The Rev. Scofield baptized her into the Seventh-day Adventist Church in May of 1957. She was received into membership in June 1957. She was a deaconess, and a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Northome. She was always there to help and care for her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Nyla (Walter) Nyberg of Mizpah; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, George Dennis; two brothers and four sisters.
