In the past, patrons who traveled by boat to the new Arthur’s Restaurant on Ten Mile Lake would have to take a rather steep walk from the waterfront up across the Paul Bunyan Trail and then up Long Bay Road to get to the restaurant. Jerry Trout, a founding member of the Itasca Moraine Chapter of the North Country Trail Association, was aware that the DNR required that all foot traffic from the boat landing only cross the Paul Bunyan Trail. He saw an opportunity to give the North Country Trail more visibility at this intersection. Members of The Itasca Moraine Chapter constructed the trail through the woods. Pictured are chapter team members (from left) Darcie Gaeken of Backus, Heidi and Don Hoppe of Hackensack, Bruce Johnson of Park Rapids, Byron Knapp of Park Rapids, Jerry and Beth Trout of Hackensack and Carter Hedeen of Park Rapids at the trailhead near the southwest corner of the restaurant.
