Gordon Benson, 75, of Gully, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident near Comstock, Minn.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley with Mardy Schermerhorn officiating. Burial of his cremains will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Benson Family Homestead near Zerkel, Minn.

He was born March 7, 1933, to Goodwin and Clara Benson in Bagley. He lived most of his life near Zerkel. He married Joan Arnold in 1961 in Bagley. They had seven children.

He served in the Army from 1952 to 1954. He was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal and was in the Reserve. He farmed, logged and ranched in Clearwater County most of his life.

He married Arlene Corral in 1997 in the Philippine Islands and they lived in Lisbon, N.D. While there, he began writing books to fulfill his dreams of being a published author. He enjoyed nature and the land, reading, hunting and fishing, and travel. He also liked spending time with his grandchildren. Just hours before his death, he met and held his newest great-grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Jamestown, N.D.; sister, Marilyn (Stewart) Peterson of Excelsior, Minn.; sons, Dale (Cindy) Benson of Bagley, Alan Benson of Grandbury, Texas, Mark Benson of Gully, and Wade (Becky) Benson of West Fargo, N.D.; daughters Judy (Kent) Oland of Sheldon, N.D., Anita Benson of Marshall, Minn., and Lisa Benson of Fargo, N.D.; former wife, Joan of Bagley; step-children, Sherry Untal of Breckenridge, Minn., and Ryan (Angel) Untal, who is serving in the Army in South Korea; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
