BEMIDJI-The final regatta race for the Lake Bemidji Sailing Association will take place on Sunday, officials said.

The weather is expected to be perfect for sailing, sunny with a steady south wind of about 15 miles per hour, officials said.

This year's final race was to be held July 18, but with wind gusts of up to 40 mph and waves up to 3 feet on Lake Bemidji, the decision was made to reschedule the event. Officials had hoped to run the race to coincide with the All-School Reunion.

Sunday's race will be a scattered start, with sailing boats with a higher handicap ranking given a fair head start over the line.

Following the race, first-, second-, and third-place prizes will be awarded to skippers and crew members, along with a traveling trophy held by the first-place skipper until the 2016 regatta season.

The skippers' meeting will be held at 1:30 at Diamond Point Park with a starting horn of 2 p.m. For more information, call (612) 723-2755.
