Extreme cold temperatures cancel New Year's Day snowshoe hike at Lake Bemidji State Park

BEMIDJI – The planned snowshoe hike at Lake Bemidji State Park scheduled for Monday as part of the annual First Day Hike events has been canceled because of the expected bitterly cold weather.

The forecast calls for a high temperature of 0 degrees on Monday, with possible dangerous wind chills, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks, N.D.

All of north-central and northwest Minnesota are in a wind chill warning until 9 a.m. Monday, with the potential of wind chills of at least 30 to 50 below forecast in some areas.
