Elva Laura Nelson, 92, of Clearbrook, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley with the Rev. Mike Sculley officiating. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Clearbrook.
She was born Feb. 22, 1916, to Claus and Pauline (Rupp) Garmer in Bismark, N.D. The Garmer family moved to Clearwater Lake when she was 3 years old. She went to Neving School and attended Clearbrook High School, where she enjoyed playing the center on the Clearbrook High School basketball team. She graduated from Clearbrook in 1933.
She attended nursing school training in Minneapolis. After nursing school, she married Norris Stolquist in 1937. They had one daughter, Kay. She worked as a cook at the Clearbrook High School and also worked at the Good Samaritan for several years.
In January 1977, she married Orville Nelson in Gonvick. They lived on his farm for many years, eventually moving into the Brookfield Apartments in Clearbrook. The two of them enjoyed some traveling especially their trip to Niagara Falls. She and her husband moved to the Good Samaritan Center in 2004. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and attended a few games.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Erickson of Bagley; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, John and Richard Garmer; sisters, Agnes Harting, Ester Johnson and Emily Starner and one son-in-law.
