EGF girls win Little Amik crown

East Grand Forks dethroned International Falls to clai m its first title in the 11th running of the Little Amik-I track meet Tuesday at the BSU Rec Center.

The Green Wave piled up 128½ points to 71½ for the defending champions. Park Rapids, Bagley/Fosston and Pequot Lakes completed the top five in the 15-team field.

Nevis was ninth with 29, the Bemidji JV tenth with 21 with Clearbrook/Gonvick 11 and WHA 15.

Krista Skoglund of International Falls won MVP honors, taking first in the high jump and 800, second in the triple jump and running on the third place 4 x 8 relay.

Sara Berger of East Grand Forks was the only other double winner, taking the long and triple jumps.

There were no new records set during the day.

Eighth grader Kelsey Heisler gave Bemidji its only win, claiming the 1600 in 5:47.35.

Tessa Comstock took fourth in the hurdles while the 4 x 4 relays finished 6-7 and the 4 x 8 unit eighth.

Micah Richards of Nevis won the 55 hurdles and was fourth in the triple jump with Jessica Schunk fourth in the 55.

And Alissa Huschle won the 400 for Bagley/Fosston. The Flyers also won the 4 x 2 relay and were second in the 4 x 4 and seventh in the 4 x 8 for 20 more points.

Mariah Berg and Kate Lytvynovd ended 4-5 in the long jump.

Nevis was second in the 4 x 2.

Last spring's state entrant junior Heidi Kjolhaug of Clearbrook-Gonvick had an easy time in the 55 and 200. She won the 55 in 7.69 and the 200 in 28.43.

Most of the schools will return for next Tuesday's Little Amik-II. The larger schools run tomorrow at the Paul Bunyan Express starting at 3 p.m.
