Edward William "Bill" Ferdig, 76, of Blackduck, died on Friday, March 24, 2006, after an extended illness.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Dwight Warden and Rev. John Keers officiating. Burial will be in Moose Park Township Cemetery in rural Blackduck. The Snustad Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted the family with arrangements.

He was born on Jan. 18, 1930, to Clarence and Emma (Beighley) Ferdig, at their homestead in Moose Park Township. He attended the Moose Creek School. He worked with his parents on the farm until he went into the Army in 1952. He served two years in active duty in Korea and six years in the Reserves. He bought his own farm near Alvwood and married Ruth Smith on Aug. 26, 1954. They bought the home place in 1959 and have lived there since.

He enjoyed farming, logging and hunting, both here and in Colorado. His greatest desire was witnessing to his neighbors for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Alvwood Evangelical Free Church.

He is survived by his wife; children, Darlene (Norman) Skaug, Duane (Linda) Ferdig and Harold (Jackie) Ferdig; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Rich; and sisters, Arlene, Betty and Kay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
